An Israeli soldier has been killed in exchanges of fire with a gunman who had succeeded in cutting the security fence between the Gaza Strip and Israel and entering Israeli territory. The family of the soldier has been notified. Following an alert of an infiltration into Israeli territory, IDF soldiers arrived on the scene. In the exchanges of fire that ensued, the terrorist was also killed.
Following the incident, Israeli tanks shelled the area, and the air force was also in action over the Gaza Strip. The IDF says that Hamas controls the Gaza Strip and is therefore responsible for this incident.
