Israel responded to a rocket that was fired at Gan Yavne on Tuesday night, shattering nearly a year of relative calm. The Israeli Air Force attacked four targets in the Gaza Strip early Wednesday morning in response. Palestinians in Gaza told the Ma’an news agency on Wednesday that they were gripped by “a state of tension and anxiety” as “the specter of war hangs in the air.” “What happened yesterday reminded us of the atmosphere that preceded the war,” said Khaled, a Gaza resident whose home in a four-story apartment building was destroyed.” “We were hoping the first anniversary of the war would be met the reconstruction and not a new war,” he said. “We are not psychologically prepared for a new war and we still have not recovered from the effects of the war and our homes are still totally devastated.” Khaled said that the sounds of explosions from IAF raids had “seized his five children.” Following the rocket being fired into Israel, Hamas security forces surrounded militants from the al-Quds Brigade, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, and arrested a number of them, according to a separate report in Palestinian media, quoting sources in Gaza. A Palestinian source quoted by Israel Radio said that a number of organizations in the Strip convened following the rocket being fired, which the source said goes against Palestinian interests and the interests of all parties in the Gaza Strip.
